It's so gratifying to be able to use my photography skills to help animal rescue organizations increase their adoption rates. One photo that gives a glimpse into the soul of a homeless animal can be all that's needed to inspire a potential adopter to meet the pet. I just want to help get them together so the dog or cat can let its personality seal the deal.

Two of my favorite rescue groups are Bideawee and The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF).

Celebrating it's 115th anniversary, Bideawee is a leading pet welfare organization serving metropolitan New York and Long Island. For the last seven years I've volunteered my time to photograph their volunteers, staff and animals for their website, social media outlets and a photobook. For a number of years I photographed their Photos with Santa event.

In 2016 and 2017, in partnership with Pawcasso Art Studio and Pet Boutique, we held, Photos Feeding Fido. These day-long fundraisers offered a series of 15-minute photo shoots, raffles, auctions, children's games and activities. 100% of the money raised at these sold-out events was donated to Bideawee.

"It is an absolute pleasure working with Dee! She has donated her time and talent to Bideawee for numerous events and marketing photo shoots. Her work is remarkable and our staff, volunteers and event attendees all love the exceptional portraits of them and their pets." -Amy Brostoff,  Associate Director of Partnerships, Bideawee

"I’ve worked with Dee on several Bideawee shoots and it’s always a pleasure.  Not only is she a talented photographer, but a passionate animal lover and a champion of our mission. We’ve worked with many photographers but Dee is always the first  person we call on.  Her talents and temperament continuously bring out the best in pets and the people who love them."  -Melissa Treuman, Brand Manager, Bideawee

Since its founding in 1974, The Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF), located in Wainscott, NY, has saved over 25,000 dogs and cats and spayed/neutered over 20,000 cats. In addition to its extraordinary local efforts, ARF worked at astounding speed to help animals victimized by the 2017 Hurricanes.

At the end of August, ARF send two customized vans filled with supplies to Austin, Texas and returned with 57 animals evacuated due to Hurricane Harvey. Once medically cleared, they were available for adoption from shelter partners, The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation and Kent Animal Shelter.

In September, the ARF team turned their attention to the animal victims of Hurricane Irma. They wasted no time in driving to Dayton Beach, Florida to return with 49 animals.

In October and December of 2017, ARF chartered two cargo flights to Puerto Rico. The first was to evacuate animals from the Rincon area where outside help was slow to arrive. The second trip was to aid its long-time rescue partner, Leo Roubian and Barks of Hope, that had no electricity, water or gas. ARF flights returned safely to Westhampton’s Gabreski airport with a total of 200 animals.

I am in awe of the dedication of the staff and volunteers who devote their days and nights to saving the helpless animals in this world. I am honored to be able to contribute to their efforts by providing photography to spotlight both their work and the faces of the dogs and cats in need of loving homes.

“Dee is one of a kind! We are forever grateful and thankful that Dee makes time to photograph the animals at ARF! Dee has done so much for us over the years and the animals she photographs find their forever homes that much sooner!”   -Jamie Berger, Director of Communications, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF).
